The Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing arrived in Namibia on December 20th, 1920. Since then, they have been involved in caring for the sick and educating Namibian children through various means. Currently, the priory of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters is located in Nubuamis Farm Area, in the vicinity of Khomas north. Through interactions with the sisters and locals, the living conditions and needs of the community have come to the sisters’ attention. In response to their plight, a center was constructed between 2018 and 2019. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 27th, 2018. The center was blessed on June 19th, 2019, by Fr. Abbot Godfrey Sieber, OSB, Abbot Emeritus of Inkamana Abbey, in attendance of the blessing ceremony were the Priory House Community and some members of the Roman Catholic Hospital Community. Its first utilization was for the 20th Priory Echo Chapter.
The center was blessed for the second time by Fr. Abbot Godfrey Sieber, OSB, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mother Maoro Sye, OSB, Prioress General of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing, and Sr. Lumen Gloria Dungca, OSB, Vicaress General, on August 15, 2019, at 3:30 p.m. Present were the sisters from the Priory House Community and outstations, as well as representatives from other religious congregations and friends of the Community.
The Centre was first opened in 2019 for a pilot course in Basic Sewing Level 1. The course ran from November 14 to November 28, 2019, with a closing exercise. The total number of hours was 39 (37 hours for sewing and 2 hours for Catechism). The centre officially opened its doors on October 11, 2021, for all courses.
